A weekend job as a propagation and nursery hand when he was 15 years old may have started Glen Ryan’s passion for all things green, but a smart move to Margaret River in 1997 cemented his career in the vineyard.
As Vineyard Manager, Glen is proud to be part of the continued development of Voyager Estate. He takes a ‘hands-on’ approach, believing that time spent in the vineyard is crucial. His focus is on maintaining a uniform canopy structure and maximising vine function and leaf condition to achieve the best possible characters for each variety and Voyager Estate’s wine style.
Glen joined Voyager Estate in 1999 as a Vineyard Hand, choosing Voyager Estate’s position over others because of the attention to detail evident in the vineyards and gardens on the Estate. Glen quickly proved he was meticulous in his work and moved through the ranks of vineyard roles, including Vineyard Supervisor and Assistant Manager, until he became Vineyard Manager in October 2009.
Undertaking studies of Viticulture and Oenology has complemented Glen’s practical experience and the mentoring received from the Voyager Estate team.
Glen enjoys working with a team truly dedicated to achieving the highest possible standards in every aspect of viticulture and winemaking. He loves the camaraderie at Voyager Estate and freely admits that he couldn’t imagine any other job he would rather do - in any other part of the world.
