Winemaker & Winery Manager
Travis Lemm joined Voyager Estate in 2004 as Assistant Winemaker. Within five years, he’d worked his way to Winery Manager, and couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead for the winery.
Originally from Adelaide, Travis travelled to Western Australia in the hope of securing a position with a leading Chardonnay producer. A week after his final Oenology exam in 2004, Travis started at Voyager Estate under the tutelage of then-Chief Winemaker, Cliff Royle.
Since becoming Winery Manager in 2009, Travis has immersed himself in the quest for site-specific expression. For Chardonnay, this means two wines from two specific blocks: Project 95 and Project Gin Gin. Both are sourced from two blocks from the outstanding Broadvale Vineyard, a key piece of the puzzle in Voyager Estate Chardonnay. With Cabernet, the Estate’s two best parcels, Old Block and North Block, have been given a chance to go it alone. It’s little surprise that Travis likes to relax with Chardonnay and Bordeaux-style reds.
The rapid ascent of Margaret River as a world class region for these varieties is part of the attraction of living there. But of course there’s much more to it than that. There’s the family times shared with his wife and their daughter, a game of golf whenever possible, plus fine food and wine in the company of friends.
